Luke 15:22-24

22But the father said to his slaves, “Quickly, bring out a robe—the best one—and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23And get the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate; 24 for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!’ And they began to celebrate.

( The Story of the prodigal son contains many lessons.   I encourage you to read the entire parable, Luke 15:11-32. )

The meaning of the verses we read today are equally profound; when someone changes their life, when a person forsakes the sinful ways of the past and comes to God, there is much rejoicing and celebrating! You can hear the voice of God in the last verse; ‘ for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!’

As we pray, remember what the son said to the father as he returned home; “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.” Then remember, God has forgiven us already!
