Jesus Heals Simon’s Mother-in-Law

DAY 05 Monday, March 11, 2019
Healing of Simon Peter’s mother-in-law
Luke 4: 38-39

After leaving the synagogue he entered Simon’s house.
Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever,
and they asked him about her.
Then he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her.
Immediately she got up and began to serve them.

In the healing of Simon Peter’s mother-in-law,
Jesus demonstrates the “ripple effect” of an act of God’s will;
in this case, a miracle of compassion.
Certainly, it cured Peter’s mother-in-law,
but how were Peter and his wife and children affected?
What about Andrew, James, and John? How was their faith impacted by this event?
Do you suppose they shared this story with others?
What impact did it have on the faith, and actions, of those who heard about it 3rd hand?
These are reasonable questions for anyone examining their faith.
Consider how you would react, or how moved you might be,
to witness or even hear about this kind of miracle.
(The next two verses in Luke offer answers these questions.)
